HGTV Looking for Makeover Candidates
Anyone who would like to have HGTV roll up in an 18-wheeler and do an instant home makeover should get ready to apply.

Beginning Saturday, Jan. 1, visitors can go to HGTV.com and upload photos of their homes in need of transformation. Winners will receive a high-end home makeover and the chance to appear on HGTV.

HGTV personalities participating in the makeovers include David Bromstad (Color Splash), John Gidding (Curb Appeal: The Block), Genevieve Gorder (Dear Genevieve), Sabrina Soto (Get It Sold and Real Estate Intervention), and Vern Yip (HGTV Design Star). Each week, one designer will pull up to the home selected for a makeover in a specially outfitted HGTV truck.

The series will air during the summer of 2011.

Ice Fishing on Lake Chautauqua

Chautauqua Lake offers "hardwater" angling opportunities for walleye and panfish. Ice fishing can be an enjoyable outing for the whole family and only requires a minimum of equipment. Clothing is key to an enjoyable ice-fishing experience-dress in layers and use a good pair of insulated pack boots.Anglers will also need an ice auger, or spud, to cut a hole through the ice and an ice skimmer to clean the ice chips out of the hole. Ice fishing tackle should be geared toward the size fish you want to catch. Generally, lighter is better to catch sensitive-biting fish like bluegill and crappie. For a current snowmobile report, call 800.242.4569 (press 2, then 5) With 600 miles of groomed trails over rolling foothills, open meadows and majestic State forestlands, Chautauqua County is a snowmobilers paradise. Trails are generally open from mid-December to late March or even April, groomed by members from five local clubs. These dedicated sledders cooperate with hundreds of private landowners and utilize 16 full size groomers to maintain safe and smooth riding conditions on more than 300 miles of corridor and secondary trails and 300 miles of club trails throughout Chautauqua County. Along the trailheads, service stations, restaurants and accommodations provide convenient access to amenities.

Winter is finally here! Instead of hibernating in the house this year get out there and enjoy the weather! There are plenty of events coming up right here in western, New York and plenty of winter sports to enjoy. There is skiing, snowboarding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and sledding with the children.

            You can make fun out of the upcoming winter season. Holiday Valley expects to open by this coming weekend just in time for the beginning of December. The ski resort is located in Ellicottville with 58 downhill slopes and plenty of lodges to warm up in. They also have a tubing hut for those non-skiers and lessons if you would like to learn to ski.
