Chautauqua Town of Busti Moving Forward With Plan.

BUSTI - Busti residents will soon be asked what want like to see in the town's future.

The Busti Town Board has been working on a comprehensive plan for several months and will soon request citizens to give their input into what they would like to see in the town.

Kathleen Sullivan, Busti supervisor, said town officials will hold public meetings in April or May to gather responses that could be used in the plan.

''We're preparing to set up public meetings in April or May, once the weather is better, to see from the town what they want to see,'' she said.

The comprehensive plan is a document town officials will use to determine community goals and aspirations for future development. The document usually includes a plan for public policy in terms of transportation, utilities, land use, recreation and housing. Comprehensive plans typically encompass large geographical areas, a broad range of topics and cover a long time frame.

With significant changes to traffic patterns along the Fairmount Avenue corridor and adjacent highways, and increased residential and commercial growth in the town, town officials believe now is the best time for an official planning document to be done.

Ms. Sullivan said members of the comprehensive plan committee have been accumulating information to prepare for processing the document.

''We've been working through our different areas and gathering notes for the committee,'' she said.

Prior to the public meetings, Ms. Sullivan said a survey is being planned to be sent out to town residents to solicit ideas for the town's possible future.

Last summer, the town board selected Nussbaumer & Clarke Inc. to be its comprehensive plan consultant. Established in Buffalo in 1933, Nussbaumer & Clarke is a multi-disciplined engineering and land survey corporation with offices in Dunkirk, Hamburg, North Tonawanda and Ellicottville.

Mrs. Sullivan has said she estimates it will cost $50,000 to $70,000 to develop the comprehensive plan. She hopes the town will be able to receive state grant money to add on to the $25,000 the town plans to spend on developing the document.
