The Bemus Point Casino To Get Facelift

BEMUS POINT - Ways to improve the Village Casino are being studied by village officials and casino operators.
According to Mayor Bryan Dahlberg, siding for the village-owned establishment is being looked into, as is an elevator to make the second story handicapped-accessible.
The casino is currently leased by Steve Carlson, with his family members, David VanNess and Andrew Carlson of Professional Hospitality, to lease it for the next five years. Carlson's lease expires in October, with Professional Hospitality being awarded the future lease.
Dahlberg said work is being planned to improve the facility with discussions about that work talked about at a recent Village Board meeting.
Dahlberg said siding of the facility will be done in two stages as the village park and ferry sides of the building are expected to be improved this year, and the remainder to be done in the future. Dahlberg said the project is a joint one between the village and casino operators. Although costs are still being determined, he said, the village will purchase the materials and the operators will pay for the labor.
Both are also looking into making the second floor of the casino handicapped-accessible. Dahlberg said operators have hired a firm to draw up plans for which village officials expect to apply for a grant.
"We're working with the village to try to update the building a little bit," VanNess said.
In other village news, Dahlberg said the village dock is expected to be installed the first or second week of April. The village Easter egg hunt is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at the village park, with a rain date of April 10 scheduled.
Dahlberg said drainage work on Alburtus Drive is also expected to begin in the near future.
An organizational meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the North Harmony Town Hall for those planning Bemus Point-Stow ferry bicentennial celebrations to be held in July 2011.
