The Rotary Club of Lakewood-Chautauqua South will be holding its 12th annual Dale Jacobs Memorial Chili Open Golf Tournament on Saturday, Feb. 2, at the Busti Fire Hall and grounds. The tournament, which is sponsored by 3 C's Catering, Wegmans, Lakewood Mobil Mart, Danielson Oil and The Post-Journal, is designed to be played in winter weather and will prove to be a way for seasoned players and beginners alike to escape "cabin fever" this winter and enjoy a round of golf in some unusual conditions. Holes range in length from 50 to 75 yards, so short irons are in order. Last year's event featured some snow, though this year looks to be less snowy. An orange ball is provided to make things easier. Article Photos The Lakewood Rotary Club is hosting the 11th annual Chili Open golf tournament, Saturday, Feb. 2, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Busti Fire hall and grounds Sponsors include 3 C’s catering, Wegmans, Danielson Oil, Lakewood Mobil Mart and The Post-Journal. Shown above is a previous year’s foursome. Registration at the fire hall begins at 9 a.m. and will feature coffee for the early birds, along with pastries and juice. The entry fee is $20 a person for all the golf one can play, though each golfer's round is the only one to count for prizes. There will also be food beverages, games and door prizes. Children 12 years old and younger are $10. The tournament is open to all ages of golfers, but adult supervision is required. For those who prefer to stay inside and not play golf, $10 will cover everything but golf. All are welcome to stay all day long. There will be a gift basket giveaway and several games available inside. Again this year is a fire department challenge open to all local volunteer fire departments. Departments will compete for a pair of trophies, one large one that will circulate to the winning department each year and one smaller one for the current winning department to keep. Cash prizes for the winning departments will be awarded. Scores will also count toward prizes in the full tournament as well. Each county fire department has been notified, with each department encouraged to enter a foursome. The tournament is played as a scramble. Prizes include first and second closest to the pin, first and second lowest team score, and there is a special prize for a hole-in-one on hole number nine. Food will again be provided in part by 3 C's Catering, which is again providing the chili this year. Rotary Club members will serve hot dogs with or without Johnny's famous sauce, several desserts and beverages including coffee, soda and beer. Snacks are available throughout the day. Everyone attending will receive a goodie bag. The course will be open until 2 p.m. with indoor events wrapping up by 3 p.m. Golfers must register at the fire hall before playing golf. Proceeds from this year's tournament will benefit the Busti Fire Department and other local organizations in need. For more information, call Peter Elofson, Chili Golf chairman, at 488-9349.
