Days and nights maybe getting cooler but that doesnt mean the end to summer fun. Here are some events taking place the next few weeks that you may like: The August edition of Third Thursday will take place this Thursday starting 6:00 pm at Winter Garden Plaza. The free summer concert series will host local punk band Wake, traveling musician Christopher Bell (originally from Jamestown, NY) and regional touring band Well Worn Boot.
The Roger Tory Peterson Institute hosts a free open house this Saturday, August 23rd. That closely coincides with Roger Tory Peterson’s birthday of August 28th. Cake will be served to celebrate the occasion. The latest exhibit “Exquisite Miniatures” will be on display as well. The event runs from 10 am to 4 pm. For the filmakers in Jamestown the Insomniac Film Competition challenges local filmmakers to write, edit and produce a short film in 24 hours. The fruits of this competition will be screened this Sunday, August 24th at the Willow Bay Theater at 2 pm. Come down and see what great films local filmmakers, actors, editors, and a little bit of sleep deprivation can create. Admission is only $3 and goes to support the Insomniac Film Competition
For the artists and music lovers there are 2 events going on at the same time in Downtown Jamestown. The 11th annual Local Music Showcase and the 3rd annual Great Jamestown ChalkWalk will fill downtown Jamestown with music and art on Saturday, September 6th. The ChalkWalk invites local artists of all skills to use downtown’s sidewalks as a canvas. Cash prizes totaling $1200 will be awarded in three categories: best famous masterpiece, most creative design, and best tribute to Jamestown. That evening 10 different venues will be supporting Infinity Visual and Performing arts by hosting over 40 musical acts.This gives locals the opportunity to see several local bands in a variety of locations while raising awareness and funds for the community’s premiere arts education non-profit.
